Conference & Seminar

Conferences & seminars typically focus on a particular industry or industry segment, and feature keynote speakers, vendor displays, and other information and activities of interest to the event organizers and attendees. These events usually focus on issues of concern to the profession and advancements in the profession. Such conventions are generally organized by societies dedicated to promotion of the topic of interest.

Instructor Led Training (ILT)

Instructor-led training is an effective means of delivering information, as it allows for real-time feedback, questions and answers and changeable delivery to suit the needs of learners in a real-time environment, and a learning environment can be created by the instructor's style. Instructors may deliver training in a lecture or classroom format, as an interactive workshop, as a demonstration with the opportunity for learners to practice. ILT helps to engage learners and embrace different learning styles.



Computer Based Training (CBT)

Computer based training  include any E-learning applications and processes, web-based learning, virtual classroom opportunities and digital collaboration. Content is delivered via the Internet, intranet/extranet, audio or video tape, satellite TV, and CD-ROM. It can be self-paced or instructor-led and includes media in the form of text, image, animation, streaming video and audio.

Online, Self-Study Training


Online training refers to instruction in a learning environment where teacher and student are separated by time or space, or both, and the teacher provides course content through course management applications, multimedia resources, the Internet, videoconferencing, etc.

On-Site Training

On-site training or field training is training that takes place at the work site and provides trainees with a hands-on perspective in a particular course. A professional trainer serves as the course instructor using hands-on training often supported by formal classroom training.



Customized Training

The DBE Supportive Services Center can assist in the coordination of customized trainings between DBE firms and approved PA DBE University Training Providers. Contact the DBE SSC for more information.

This online Center, made possible through an agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), will provide online training, technical assistance and technical engineering support to Pennsylvania's Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (women- and minority-owned) wanting greater expertise about the process to secure Federal Highway Administration-aided contracts and subcontracts.
